Hi! My name is Owen Rees, and I'm a ceramicist based in South Wales and Plymouth. During my time studying my undergraduate degree I explored the weird and wonderful world of ceramics and developed a keen interest in the material.
My playful and exploratory approach combined with my love of nature and interest in technology helped me develop a wide range of new outcomes, styles, and methods of production, as well my own personal brand: OwenMakes.
Now completing a Masters in ceramics in Plymouth, I hope to further my knowledge and skills to allow me to develop and deliver an even higher level of ceramic production, and to push my practise to its greatest potential.
I work with a wide range of processes and materials, specialising particularly in the relationship between craft and technology, and the practical uses for this field in the realm of mould making and slip casting.
As a designer and maker, I feel we all have the responsibility to work towards a greener future, minimising the impact that our work has on the environment and the world around us. This is why I have signed the Green Maker initiative pledge to work towards reducing the environmental impact of my making practice.
